One of the great things about Boost’s Catwalk benefit tonight at Henry V (6360 NE MLK) is that it’s from local to local, but not in a back-of-the-truck farmer’s market kind of way. Boost Foundation’s elegant benefit for Portland’s Self Enhancement, Inc. is a fashion show that features designs from local apparel companies and one gentleman’s shop that range from the storied—see Jantzen’s 100 year history—to current hot properties like Anna Cohen, whose sustainable line has been getting copious national press coverage.
Factor in the fact that the hair is being done by a team from an internationally distributed hair product line based in Portland, Sidlab Hair Couture, and you have a showcase for Portland based creative entrepreneurialism in the very most glamorous way that raises funds for one of Portland’s leading youth development organizations.
Tonight, the clothes and the models will be getting much of the attention, but it’s worth noting the teams behind the scenes. Deborah Haynes and her team from Blush Beauty Bar regularly make the women of Portland more lovely in her friendly NW 23rd beauty boutique. Tonight they focus on runway looks. Keep an eye out for spring makeup trends.
Sidlab Hair Couture has overseen the creation of one of the few high-end haircare lines that are paraben-free. Parabens are a big health issue for beauty/hair products in Europe, but with all of the attention being paid to health and sustainability, in the US there have been until recently few choices for paraben-free products that perform at salon level.
The reception begins at 7:30 with a show at 9 PM.
